Who We Are
The National Ski Patrol (NSP) founded in 1938 has followed it creed of "Service and Safety" since the establishment of skiing as a popular sport in the United States. The NSP is dedicated to serving the public and outdoor recreation industry by providing education and accreditation to emergency care and safety service providers. The organization is composed of more than 28,000 members serving over 650 patrols worldwide. The National Ski Patrol is a nonprofit organization and provides it's services to skiers free of charge.
The Schuss Mountain Ski Patrol is an established member of the NSP, serving the ski/ride public at Schuss Mountain since 1967. We are a volunteer organization with a current roster of nearly 50 ski patrollers, coming from all walks of life with the passion for skiing and helping others.
Joining the National Ski Patrol
We're a different breed. When it comes to being a ski patroller, there is no mold. There are however, some common traits and similar interest that all patrollers share. National Ski Patrol members have a strong desire to help others, learn emergency care techniques, improve their skiing and snowboarding skills, while enhancing the safety and enjoyment of snow sports for all. Sound like you? Read on to learn how you can join our elite team.
First on. Last off.
National Ski Patrol members support the resort management in preparing the slopes of Schuss Mountain in the morning, rescuing and caring for injured guests throughout the day and making sure everyone gets down safely when the area closes. Sure it’s a long and often busy day, but there’s nothing more rewarding than putting in a day’s work while having a good time and making lifelong friends in the process. Besides, it sure beats spending your weekend sitting on the couch!
Learn new skills and put them to the test.
National Ski Patrol education programs offer you the chance to obtain world-class training. Learn the latest emergency care skills, search and rescue techniques, avalanche control, mountaineering, toboggan handling and many other interesting and essential skills. The most rewarding part is taking what you learn and putting it to practice on the slopes.
Are you up to the challenge?
Take your passion for snow sports to the next level by being our "guest for a day" where we invite you to ski/ride with a few of our patrol members. This is your opportunity to learn more about how the Schuss patrol operates, what is expected of members, as well as a chance for the patrol to evaluate your individual talents and abilities. Have questions, click here on the Frequently Asked Questions link to learn more and/or fill out the simple form below to have one of our Patrol leaders contact you to discuss your interest, qualifications and provide more details. We're proud to note that the Schuss Mountain Ski Patrol has been awarded the NATIONAL OUTSTANDING SMALL SKI PATROL in 2002 and again in 2012. In 2020, having grown our membership a bit, we were again honored as we were awarded the NATIONAL OUTSTANDING LARGE SKI PATROL. Come and see what we're about!
